Big Dreams Blogfest

The Big Dreams Blogfest is hosted by Misha Gericke and myself. Misha's goal is to ear $7500/month in royalties. My goals are to write a million words and make a million dollars (on words).

And it's another depressing update day. This whole year I've added 3000 words and 70 unusable pages to my word count. Impressive right? *hits self in head* And the thing is, I only make deposits to my word count bank once first draft is completed, so those words aren't even in my bank! No closer to the goal.
I got thirty pages of REALLY harsh feedback from my prof at the end of the semester, but I did learn from it. I've stopped editing to write character shorts and I'll continue rewriting later. To get out of this slump I seem to be in, I asked a friend to schedule a girl's night months in advance for the purpose of celebrating subbing Perfect Harmony (a book that has been drafted since October) to my agent. I figured motivation might help.

What about you? How are your goals coming?

  1. Beth, you're doing better than a lot of writers--You have an awesome agent. Good Luck getting everything accomplished.

  2. Once all the bad words get out, there will only be good words left. Pandora's box.
    Hang in there.

  3. Well, the way I see it, you've still learned a ton this month, which is a great thing.

Good luck with Perfect Harmony. :-)

  4. You'll get there and all feedback is good as long as you learn from it. Keep at it! :-)

  5. I'm in the same spot you are. I started revising my WIP in May and figured I could get 8 chapters revised by month's end. Now it's the end of May - how many chapters have I finished? Two. If I continue to revise 2 per month, I'll finish in a year, and my agent is expecting a fully revised and polished book in August. I feel really bad...

  6. I'm swamped with edits yet again, so I'm not getting any writing done. :(

  7. I find editing much harder than writing the first draft, so I understand some of your pain. I'm sure the slump will end soon. Keep at it. The key to writing is.... perseverance.

  8. Harsh critique can derail a person ... momentarily. But then it can motivate that person to make sweeping changes that drastically improve what was there before. I know this 'cause I've been through it!

Good luck for the next month. :)
