Update Day - Big Dreams Blogfest

The Big Dreams blogfest is hosted by Misha Gericke and myself and on update day we share our progress.

My goals are to write a million words and make a million dollars.  My monthly goal for the past couple of months has been to rewrite Perfect Harmony and send it to my agent. This keeps not happening. This month I managed to rewrite 28 pages, mostly because I have to turn it in to my professor today. And I'm going to have to re-rewrite the first chapter before I do this. At this point, I'm a little bit frustrated. I'm tired of rewriting the same pages. And I want writing to be fun again and to not have to worry about what other people think.

I don't know what a realistic goal for May is. I hope to finish re-writing Perfect Harmony and send it to my final CP before sending it on to my agent. But I've said that before. And I due have two essays and a textbook due in the near future. I'm looking forward to summer when I have more time on my hands. The MFA was supposed to improve my writing. It may be doing that but all the feedback and constant criticism is slowing me way down. And messing with my head.

It will probably be tomorrow before I can come around and comment. I'll be chained to a desk with no internet access all day today.

  1. Sounds like we're both in some bad head-space this month. I'm also freaking unsure as to what I should be doing in May, because right now it doesn't look like I'll get anything done. :-(

  3. I was just about to ask what degree is it you take? But you answered it kinda. Is it an MFA in Creative Writing or English?

And I totally agree with you. I used to think I was an anomaly when I hated my writing courses. I took a creative writing class in high school and a creative writing certificate, and even though I got great marks it was a torturous process. The feedback was swell, but I took it way too personally. Besides I think I love to write for fun, knowing I won't be getting graded or critiqued at first.

Good luck with the rewrite, Beth! Cheering you on.

BTW (side tracking here): I finished reading "The Fate of a Marlowe Girl" and right after I rushed to the computer because I knew there was a second in the series and I was hoping for it to be about Kammy! She seems entirely irredeemable and I love that! It's waiting its turn on my Android. :)

    1. Hi Hana! Thanks so much for reading my books.
I'm working on a MFA in creative and professional writing with an emphasis on fiction and technical writing. I'm going very part time because I have a 2 year old and work full time, so this semester I'm only taking one fiction class. LOL.
